First responder Herky represents the University of Iowa Healthcare first responders. Emma uses contrast in this piece to differentiate the nurse and doctor, but to also conjoin the two. This piece is done in acrylic paint. Emma’s inspiration in making this piece is medical first responders in her personal life. In efforts of making Herky, Emma hopes to invoke finding connection with medical first responders and the community.
Emma Glaser discovered a passion for drawing and painting through her parents, Lester and Willi Glaser, giving her an easel for her fourth birthday. Her passion grew in high school given the opportunities her art teacher provided. Emma has gone on to get her art minor and BA in psychology at the University of Iowa. Emma is originally from New Hampton, IA but has been living in Hiawatha for the past four years.

There are so many memorable Hawkeye moments over the years. If we had to choose just one, the very first Hawkeye Wave in 2017 would be right at the top. Seeing 70,000 fans stand in unison and wave at pediatric patients and families inside UI Stead Family Children’s Hospital was simply incredible. Each Hawkeye Wave is another reminder of the special place that is the University of Iowa.
