Golden Hour Herky is inspired by the beautiful scenes created by sunsets and farmland across the state. On the chest is a silhouette of my grandfather, who was a farmer, a few months before his passing. Across the statue, the fields at “golden hour” encompass the beauty of Iowa. Every time the sun sets, we have reasons to be thankful of this heaven and home, represented on Golden Hour Herky.
I am a 20 year-old student, born and raised in Iowa City, Iowa. I attend Cornell College in Mount Vernon, Iowa, and my major is biochemistry and molecular biology. When I am not working in the science building on Cornell’s campus, I enjoy attending Iowa sporting events and creating art. I’ve been taking classes from a young age, and painting a Herky has always been a dream of mine. My family comes from a farming background, and they are my inspiration for everything.

The first two Iowa men’s basketball games following the tragic death of Chris Street. The first game was on the road and was a dramatic come-from-behind victory at Michigan State. The Hawkeyes overcame a 15-point deficit in the final 3 minutes to force overtime, and then Michigan State never stood a chance after that. That game was followed by a victory at home against #5 Michigan and the Fab Five when Iowa rode the wave of emotion of their fallen teammate.
