My dad passed away suddenly a week before the Herky deadline so this was extra special. I wanted to pay tribute to him and his intense love for fishing and his Iowa Hawkeyes. The map is from Lake MacBride (his favorite fishing spot) and some of the lures on Herky are special to him. The pole even belonged to my dad. He would travel all over the state visiting different lakes, streams and rivers. I know that he would be proud of this! (Side note: It was sponsored by Scheels….which was his favorite store to spend all of his money on fishing rods!)
I am an AK-6th grade art teacher at Lisbon Community School. I have been teaching for over 15 years and it is the best job ever! I do art on my own as a side gig and enjoy creating beautiful pieces for people to enjoy. I’ve made murals, window art, paintings, chalkboard walls, letter, graphic design, hand lettering and even illustrated two children’s books. I have been blessed by three boys (18, 16 and 5) and have been married for 20 years. I grew up in North Liberty and now live in rural Eastern Iowa and also enjoy the outdoors, just like my dad.

Our favorite Hawkeye memory is when we were the HERO’s Game sponsor in 2022. What an amazing and humbling experience to not only be on the field at Kinnick but to present these HEROS with the recognition they deserve. We got to witness “The Wave” from one of the coolest perspectives that day and we will never forget that!
