Herk’s Anatomy is inspired by the University of Iowa medical colleges and hospitals. This Herky is painted all black with a representation of the skeletal system anatomy in yellow. Outlines of various sports equipment are also hidden throughout the skeleton, as a nod to sports medicine.
I am a portrait artist and scientific illustrator. I have a degree in Biological/Pre-Medical Illustration, though now I primarily paint and draw portraits and pet portraits. Coming from a family of artists and medical professionals (including two graduates of nursing programs at the University of Iowa), I have always been inspired to combine art and science.

There are so many memorable Hawkeye moments over the years. If we had to choose just one, the very first Hawkeye Wave in 2017 would be right at the top. Seeing 70,000 fans stand in unison and wave at pediatric patients and families inside UI Stead Family Children’s Hospital was simply incredible. Each Hawkeye Wave is another reminder of the special place that is the University of Iowa.
