In ‘Herky de los Muertos,’ I infuse the robust spirit of the Iowa Hawkeye’s mascot, Herky, with the vibrant and solemn essence of the Day of the Dead. It symbolizes the beauty and unity found in the confluence of different traditions. I hope that this artwork will not only brings joy and reflection but also ignite conversations about the richness of cultural diversity and foster a deep appreciation for the various backgrounds that color our world.

“Being an alumni of the University of Iowa fills me with immense pride and gratitude. It’s not just about the education I received during my time on campus; it’s about the lasting connections, memories, and opportunities that continue to shape my life long after graduation. The University of Iowa provided me with a strong foundation for personal and professional growth, instilling in me the values of perseverance, innovation, and collaboration that have guided my journey.
My love for University of Iowa Hawkeye sports runs deep, fueled by the exhilarating energy of game days and the unwavering spirit of the Hawkeye community. From the thunderous roars echoing through Kinnick Stadium on football Saturdays to the electrifying atmosphere of Carver-Hawkeye Arena during basketball showdowns, each sporting event is a testament to the passion and dedication of fans united in their support for the black and gold. As a devoted fan, I cherish the camaraderie and sense of belonging that come with being part of the Hawkeye family, celebrating victories and weathering defeats together, knowing that win or lose, the bonds forged through our shared love for University of Iowa sports endure as a testament to our enduring Hawkeye spirit.
