Growing up in rural Iowa, it was common to hear the phrase “knee high by the fourth of July” multiple times over the summer when discussing the growing corn. While considering ideas for Herky, the classic Iowa phrase seemed to fit perfectly. From there the design just came together and embodies not only the phrase but our hard working Iowa farmers as well.
I am originally from Solon, Iowa where I grew up among the cornfields and woods. In high school, I discovered a passion for writing and art and pursued them both at the University of Iowa. I graduated with degrees in English and Creative Writing, and Art in the spring of 2021 and began working seasonally for the National Park Service afterward. Living and working in National Parks has drawn me more and more to capturing the simple beauties of nature in my paintings. Currently, I am chasing after my love of the outdoors by working for the Forest Service in Colorado and continuing to paint the landscapes and sunsets that inspire me.
