The design for Scarecrow Herky has been with me for almost eight years, inspired by the 2nd Herky on Parade while I was attending the University of Iowa and working at Burge Marketplace. At the time we had a fall themed dinner and were decorating the windows. I painted Herky as a scarecrow and since then he has lived in my brain, just waiting to become reality. This Herky was brought into existence using epoxy resin to build out the depth on his clothes and typical scarecrow features while Liquitex paints bring bright colors and life to his design. Hopefully he’ll do his job and keep birds away from farmer’s fields.
Originating from Northeastern Iowa, I graduated from the University of Iowa in 2018 with a double major in History and Studio Art and having fallen in love with Iowa City, I started to lay roots down. Having a background in traditional drawing and painting, fiber arts, photography and having dipped a toe into pottery, I love exploring new mediums in art, developing new hobbies, attending live music shows, and spending time with friends, family, and my cats. I’m an avid fan of Disney and traveling, while also being a major homebody. If I’m not at home, you can usually find me either at a concert or visiting the beautiful Driftless Area in Northeastern Iowa where I grew up.
