With the iconic hay bale toss proudly displayed on his chest, the resounding echoes of the the Solon Beef Days Parade, complete with the cheer of proud marchers, to the thrilling spectacle of the tractor pull races and the laughter-filled excitement of the big wheel races, every brushstroke captures the essence of Solon Beef Days. And what would the festival be without the mouthwatering aroma of barbecue grills sizzling away, the lively tunes emanating from the concert platform, and the friendly banter at the bingo stand? This Herky stands as a testament to the cherished tradition that define this beloved community celebration.

Solon is ideally located in northern Johnson County between Iowa City and Cedar Rapids which brings a combination of opportunities that enhance the quality of life for those who call the Solon community home. A neighbor to Lake Macbride State Park and Coralville Reservoir, these scenic nature areas near Solon provide a variety of recreation activities such as bike trails, hiking, camping, boating and fishing, and two golf courses add to the outdoor recreation opportunities. Solon Main Street is destination and foodies won’t be disappointed when they stroll Main Street and find authentic recipes and farm-fresh menus.
The Haybale Toss at Solon Beef Days is always a highlight as Hawkeye athletes rise to this annual challenge. We are proud to be part of the 2024 Herky On Parade!
