Trailhead Herky was designed and created to highlight cycling in and around Iowa, especially Solon. The colors were chosen to be bright and cheerful.
Matthew Kargol is a native of Oskaloosa, Iowa, and has a B.A. and an M.A. from the University of Northern Iowa, and an M.F.A. from Clemson University. Matthew teaches art at Oskaloosa Senior High, serves as a community arts organizer and vice president for Fine Arts and Cultural Events of Mahaska County, and creates a wide range of art that is exhibited across the country.

Nestled in northern Johnson County with a population just over 3,000, Solon is the home of Lake Macbride State Park, the original Big Grove Brewery, and nearby places of historic significance, Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church and Sutliff Bridge. Known for its dining and trails, Solon is a hub of activity. The annual Solon Beef Days in July features great food, live entertainment, and family-friendly activities, including the famous hay bail toss.
